The “ASBIN for Schools: Embracing Differences” project was created with the aim of accompanying children, teachers and families on a journey focused on inclusion, self-awareness and recognising the value of differences.
Every child has something unique to offer: their own way of thinking, feeling, communicating, moving and interacting with others. Within the school environment, these differences can become a valuable resource when they are recognised, welcomed and appreciated.
The project aims to help children understand that belonging to a group does not mean being all the same, but rather feeling welcomed and recognised for who they are.
Through storytelling, symbolic and experiential activities, the project explores, in a simple and child-friendly way, themes such as uniqueness, difficulties, empathy, relationships and belonging.
The programme does not aim to explain inclusion from a purely theoretical perspective, but rather to allow children to experience it in a concrete way through discussion, listening, storytelling and personal expression.
Particular attention is given to helping children recognise their own characteristics and those of others, learning to see difference not as a limitation or a source of distance, but as a natural part of everyone’s experience.
The project also aims to foster a more cooperative, respectful and inclusive classroom environment, where every child can feel part of the group without having to give up what makes them unique.
Another important objective is to provide teachers with practical tools to address issues related to diversity, individual difficulties and belonging within everyday school life.
Families are also a fundamental part of the programme, because building a culture of inclusion means creating a shared language between schools, children and the adults who support them.
The project seeks to contribute to the development of school communities that are able to welcome differences and transform them into opportunities for connection, growth and meaningful relationships.
Embracing differences means creating a space where everyone can feel seen, heard, recognised and free to find their own place.
