Polio is a serious infectious disease that can cause permanent paralysis and, in severe cases, death. Thanks to an extraordinary global effort, we are now closer than ever to a historic achievement: the complete eradication of polio worldwide.
For more than 40 years, Rotary International has been at the forefront of this fight through the PolioPlus program and the End Polio Now campaign, mobilizing volunteers, resources, and international partners to ensure children in the world’s most vulnerable communities receive life-saving vaccinations.
An Extraordinary Achievement, but the Mission Is Not Yet Complete
In 1988, polio was present in 125 countries. Today, thanks to vaccination campaigns supported by Rotary and its partners, cases have declined by more than 99%.
However, the disease remains endemic in Afghanistan and Pakistan. As long as even one child remains at risk, no country can consider itself completely safe.
That is why we cannot stop now.
