Run the Milano Marathon with Caritas Ambrosiana for the Refettorio Ambrosiano!
For over 50 years, Caritas Ambrosiana has been supporting people facing vulnerability and social exclusion, creating pathways of support, listening and inclusion. Our long-standing commitment to the local community has made Caritas Ambrosiana a trusted organisation known for its transparency, reliability and commitment to social change.
One of our most significant projects is the Refettorio Ambrosiano, a community kitchen and dining hall opened in Milan’s Greco neighbourhood during Expo 2015. But the Refettorio Ambrosiano is much more than just a soup kitchen: it is a ‘beautiful’ and ‘good’ place, inspired by the values of hospitality, charity and intercultural dialogue. Here, art and solidarity come together in the fight against food waste and in the belief that beauty is a means of promoting human dignity.
Every evening, 96 people living in vulnerable circumstances and supported by Caritas Ambrosiana’s services are welcomed at the Refettorio Ambrosiano, where they are served a hot meal at the table in a well-kept and welcoming setting; but above all, they meet staff and volunteers who are ready to listen, offer support and build relationships.
At the Refettorio Ambrosiano, people are at the heart of everything we do—not simply as individuals in need, but as people with talents, strengths and potential to contribute to society. This is why the Refettorio aims to be more than just a soup kitchen for the poor; it is the starting point for a broader support programme, geared towards social reintegration and the promotion of independence.
Running the Milan Marathon alongside Caritas Ambrosiana means helping to support the meals, the shelter and the activities that enable the Refettorio Ambrosiano to open its doors every day to those most in need.
