ASBIN runs for a future without barriers!
As part of the Milan Marathon, ASBIN (Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association Niguarda) takes part in this solidarity event to raise awareness and promote the rights, independence, and well-being of children and young people with spina bifida.
Founded in 1989 at the ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda by a group of parents and medical specialists, ASBIN has spent over 30 years providing support, guidance, and real opportunities to those facing the challenges of a complex disability.
Our mission is to support children and young people with spina bifida throughout their lives, offering tools, resources, and assistance to help them achieve the highest possible level of independence. At the heart of everything we do is the promotion of health and psychosocial well-being. Through personalized programs, we work to improve quality of life by boosting self-esteem, encouraging social connections, and fostering active participation in society.
Our aim goes beyond addressing the medical needs of the condition — we strive to empower each individual to realize their full potential and build a meaningful, inclusive life.
Our Association offers a wide range of services for families and patients, including:
- Psychological support and help adapting to the condition
- Parental support
- Social services assisting families with practical help managing administrative tasks
- Free consultations for teachers to promote inclusion and well-being of children with spina bifida in school
- Free counseling for expectant couples after a spina bifida diagnosis in their unborn child
- Community gatherings and exchanges for families to build a strong network of mutual support
