Road To Life: transport and accompaniment services for people with multiple sclerosis
For the 2027 edition of the Milano Marathon, AISM has chosen once again to place people with MS at the heart of its mission, through a project that supports their ability to make independent decisions about their daily lives and future.
For some people living with MS, being active participants of every single choice means having their right to mobility guaranteed, an essential aspect of people’s freedom that is expressed in different areas of everyday life: from free access to healthcare facilities, to reaching their workplace, as well as taking part in social and community activities.
Through the funding of the project “Road To Life: transport and accompaniment services for people with multiple sclerosis”, people with MS will be able to shape their present and future with full autonomy.
The project is aimed at all those people for whom even the simplest daily actions represent real challenges: they often have a particularly disabling form of multiple sclerosis that forces them to use aids such as a walker or a wheelchair.
To provide a professional service focused on the complete safety of the user, AISM carries out the transport service through agreements with private institutions and cooperative organizations. The project also includes the accompaniment of an AISM volunteer, who has previously received specific training, supporting the person with MS throughout the entire journey, both outbound and return.
Timing and expected results:
The project refers to activities to be carried out over a 12-month period, during which we expect to provide people with MS with transport and accompaniment services, according to their specific individual needs, for a total of more than 650 intervention requests.
According to the “Multiple Sclerosis Barometer”, there are an estimated 150,000 people living with MS in Italy, with a prevalence of 24,170 cases in Lombardy.
