Road To Life: Transportation and Support Services for People with Multiple Sclerosis
For the 2026 edition of the Milano Marathon, AISM has once again chosen to place people with multiple sclerosis (MS) at the heart of its mission, through a project that enables them to freely make decisions about their daily lives and their future.
For some individuals with MS, being fully aware and in control of every choice they make means having their right to mobility guaranteed. Mobility is a crucial element of freedom and independence, impacting various aspects of daily life from accessing hospitals and reaching the workplace, to enjoying moments of social interaction and inclusion.
By funding the project “Road To Life: Transportation and Support Services for People with Multiple Sclerosis,” individuals with MS will be empowered to shape and live their present and future with greater independence.
The project is aimed at those for whom even the simplest daily activities are real challenges. Often, these individuals are affected by a particularly disabling form of MS that requires them to use mobility aids such as walkers or wheelchairs. To ensure professional and safe service, AISM carries out transportation in partnership with private cooperative institutions. The project also includes the presence of a trained AISM volunteer who accompanies the person with MS throughout the entire journey, both to and from their destination.
Timeline and Expected Outcomes:
The project will run over a 12-month period, during which we aim to provide transportation and escort services tailored to the specific needs of people with MS, responding to over 650 service requests.
According to the Multiple Sclerosis Barometer 2025, there are an estimated 144,000 people with MS in Italy, with 21,750 cases in the Lombardy region alone.
