Milan, Thursday 22 February – The final workshop dedicated to the Charity Program 2024 and reserved for the Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) registered for the Wizz Air Milano Marathon, the Milan running event scheduled for 7 April, ended yesterday after 6 productive meetings that started last autumn. Aimed at supporting NPOs in the activation of charity initiatives and projects, the workshop was organised by RCS Sport & Events together with Rete del Dono, a historical partner of the project. Among the NPOs involved yesterday: Cancer Sucks, YouSport and LILT.

The Milano Marathon Charity Programme is mainly linked to the UniCredit Relay Marathon, the relay race that divides the 42.195-kilometre route into four fractions ranging from 6 to 13 kilometres each.

Participation in the relay is only available by registering for one of the 104 official NPOs, 12 more than in 2023, grouped into six categories: Diamond (4), Platinum (8), Gold (7), Silver (24), Bronze (41) and Wild Card (20). The complete list is available on the event’s official website (www.milanomarathon.it/staffetta-iscrizione-onp/).

The target for the next UniCredit Relay Marathon is 4 thousand participating teams, for a total of 16 thousand runners. The official title partner of the 11th edition, a major European group and leading bank in Italy, aims to promote the practice of sport and the values it represents: team spirit, determination, respect for rules, and inclusion. A great deal of attention will also be placed on social issues, thanks to the numerous participants in the UniCredit Running Team event, a community of colleagues, friends and families who will run in association with a non-profit organisation, selected from those listed on the partner’s digital platform Il Mio Dono (My Gift) and simultaneously participating in the Charity Programme. At the end of the relay race, the bank will donate a further 5,000 euros to the non-profit organisations associated with the top five best placed UniCredit teams. Remarkable numbers for the great solidarity project of the UniCredit Relay Marathon, which has raised a total of more than 5.5 million euros, of which 1.2 million in 2023 alone, confirming the Milan Marathon as Europe’s second most important sporting event in terms of fundraising after the London Marathon.

ROUTE – This year’s main new feature is the start and finish at the Duomo.

Approximately 19 kilometres will unfold through the city centre, touching on truly iconic Milan landmarks such as the Teatro alla Scala, Brera, San Babila, the Castello Sforzesco, Largo Cairoli, as well as City Life district and Portello. The route is designed to meet the needs of all registered participants (top runners and amateurs alike) and will offer the unique opportunity to admire an increasingly attractive city in its combination of historical and contemporary elements. The area reserved for the NPOs will be located between San Babila and Via Durini, right in the heart of the city centre, just a stone’s throw from the start and finish line.

EXCHANGE ZONES AND RACE FRACTIONS – The exchange zones and the length of the individual fractions have already been finalized: Pagano for the first fraction (13 kilometres 300 metres), Piazzale dello Sport for the second (8 kilometres 900 metres), Bonola for the third (6 kilometres 100 metres), before heading back to the Cathedral for the last 13.895 kilometres.
