PALLIATIVE CARE OUTPATIENT CLINIC: a journey of care with a human face
In Italy, over 500.000 people each year require palliative care, yet to date only 33% of them have access to these services. The national goal set by Law 197/2022 is ambitious: to reach 90% of patients in need by 2028.
To achieve this milestone, it is essential to expand existing services and promptly reach patients with incurable illnesses who require palliative care. For this reason, since 2012 the Hospice of Abbiategrasso has been offering, through its palliative care physicians, free consultations within the wards of Magenta Hospital.
Hospital consultations make it possible to:
- improve the quality of life for patients with incurable illnesses;
- support families in making end-of-life decisions;
- facilitate the transition to more appropriate care settings (home care or hospice care);
- reduce emergency room visits by patients with incurable illnesses.
Since 2012, Hospice physicians have carried out over 7.600 consultations at the Hospital.
Thanks to the support of the relay teams running for the Hospice of Abbiategrasso at the Relay Marathon on April 12, 2026, we will be able to:
- continue offering free consultations at Magenta Hospital;
- extend the service to Community Health Centers and Nursing Homes;
- provide targeted training for the staff of Hospitals, Community Health Centers, and Nursing Homes;
- include nursing consultations for symptom monitoring.
Here are some examples of what your donation to the Hospice of Abbiategrasso can achieve:
- With €15: ensure symptom monitoring;
- With €30: provide a full consultation for a patient with an incurable illness;
- With €60: cover one hour of a palliative care physician’s work at Magenta Hospital;
- With €100: guarantee a complete consultation pathway.
Thank you for choosing to run alongside the Hospice of Abbiategrasso!
