OBM, working alongside professionals at the Buzzi Hospital in Milan every day, believes that all children have the right to treatment “wherever they are born and live”. Every year, hundreds of families are forced to leave their daily lives behind and move to another city in the hope of finding the best treatment for their child.
OBM takes care not only of hospitalised children, but also of their families, who experience the illness and pain vicariously. We know that treatment is more effective when parents are calm and cooperative, because anxiety and stress inevitably affect children: for them, being with their mum and dad is the first form of treatment.
Since 2010, we have been welcoming these families by offering them cosy homes where they can stay close to their children during their hospitalisation. Over the years, this activity has grown to accommodate over 500 people each year. In fifteen years, our Association has offered 16,492 nights free of charge, transforming our accommodation not only into a place to rest, but into real havens of comfort, where people do not feel alone in the most difficult moments.
