ASSOCIAZIONE MERCURIO APS
“Rising Together” is a project that will change schools from the bottom up, in contexts with a high risk of economic and social fragility and early school leaving.
The context: why are we taking action?
More and more schools are reporting anxiety, isolation, aggression among students and communication difficulties between school and family.
To contrast these phenomena, “Rising Together” offers multi-level educational support for three secondary schools in the Milan neighbourhoods of Bovisa, San Siro and Corvetto, areas with high socio-economic vulnerability and high school dropout rates. Most of the students are of foreign origin, many of whom have recently settled in the area. The schools involved are: IC OLMI, IC Pezzani and IC Neri-Calasanzio.
The aim is to contrast school hardship and promote well-being, inclusion and motivation through targeted activities designed to:
- Students (900): Creative workshops, coaching, mindfulness workshop, Philosophy for Children , and art therapies activities to boost self-esteem, empathy, communication, and decision-making.
- Teachers: Training and tools for empathetic classroom management to foster trust, dialogue and inclusion.
- Families: Dialogue sessions to strengthen school-family partnership and encourage active participation.
The impact
The project supports individual motivation and class cohesion through non-judgement as a pillar of the learning process and self-correction and collective evaluation. The challenge is to promote a paradigm shift and a transformative perspective in the relationship between teachers and students.
The project strengthens empowerment and soft skills in young people, stimulates emotional awareness and active participation, and develops resilience and skills through learning & teaching by doing and teamwork. It also supports teachers with targeted tools for empathetic classroom management, promoting an inclusive school environment based on trust, dialogue and error as part of the growth process.
