The Child Care program was created with the aim of offering comprehensive support to children and young adults with cancer undergoing treatment at the Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori di Milano, and their families. LILT Milano Monza Brianza complements clinical pathways with concrete interventions to improve quality of life, reduce emotional burden, and jointly address the daily difficulties of the illness.
Through personalized care, Child Care provides hospitality, pediatric dental assistance, educational and recreational activities, non-stop medical consultation, and support for life expenses, with a view to integrated and humanized care.
OBJECTIVES
- Support children with cancer by offering free services throughout their treatment journey.
- Alleviate the practical, economic, and emotional burden on families, who are often far from home and in vulnerable situations.
- Promote the humanization of care in pediatric oncology.
- Spread the culture of solidarity and inclusion through active community involvement.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
- Case del Cuore: 7 apartments close to the hospital, to accommodate the families of young patients free of charge.
- Pediatric dental clinic: to prevent and manage oral complications related to oncological therapies.
- Recreational and educational activities: creative workshops, school support, and entertainment to promote psychological well-being.
- Pediatric hot-line: 24/7 phone support with qualified medical staff.
- Viaggiamo insieme (We travel together): reimbursement of travel expenses for families in economic difficulty.
RESULTS ACHIEVED (year 2024)
- 140 families hosted for a total of 9,023 overnight stays.
- 199 children followed by the pediatric dental clinic.
- 298 telephone consultations through the “pediatric hot-line” service.
- 471 minors involved in educational and recreational activities.
CONCLUSION
The Charity Program represents an important opportunity for LILT to raise awareness and funds to ensure the continuity and strengthening of the Child Care project. Running for children with cancer means giving them a home during treatment, a smile during difficult times, and a concrete support network.
Through the Milano Marathon 2026, we want to involve runners, companies, and citizens to build a path of solidarity together that continues to make a difference.
How the earnings will be used
The earnings collected through the Milano Marathon will be allocated to:
- Increase the number of families welcomed in the Case del Cuore.
- Offer additional hours of psycho-pedagogical assistance and entertainment.
- Guarantee the sustainability of the pediatric dental service.
- Strengthen logistical support for families in greater difficulty.
