Child Care: Supporting Children with Cancer and Their Families, Every Day
Every year, hundreds of children and teenagers from all over Italy come to Milan to undergo cancer treatment at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori. Alongside them are families facing emotional, practical, and financial challenges that can often be overwhelming.
To support them, LILT Milano Monza Brianza created Child Care, a program that provides comprehensive assistance to young patients and their families throughout their treatment journey. It is a form of support that goes beyond medical care, placing the well-being of both the child and the family at the heart of every intervention.
Through Child Care, families can access:
- Case del Cuore: 8 apartments located near the hospital to host for free families who travel from afar;
- Pediatric dental care, essential for preventing and managing oral complications related to cancer treatments;
- Educational and recreational activities, helping children maintain a sense of normality during difficult times;
- Pediatric Support Hotline, providing dedicated 24/7 phone medical assistance;
- Travel cost contributions for families facing financial hardship.
In 2025, Child Care supported 140 families with over 9,000 overnight stays, provided pediatric dental care to 199 children, delivered 298 consultations through its Pediatric Support Hotline, and involved 471 children and adolescents in educational and recreational activities.
