1 HOUR OF RECREATIONAL THERAPY EVERY WEEK, ALL YEAR ROUND!
EVEN WONDERFULLY COMPLEX CHILDREN HAVE THE RIGHT TO THIS.
Una mano per…,thanks to the role of the Social Tutor, supports families with a child with disabilities in accessing their rights, regional and municipal funding, school inclusion, daily life management, bureaucratic and hospital procedures, and travel arrangements.
Through their conversations with families, the Social Tutors realized that free time, the joy of playing, and having a dedicated activity were missing in our community but that with research and coordination, such a project could become possible.
“Facing a year of recreational activities for a child with disabilities is a big unknown… Will they be well? Will they have to be hospitalized? As parents, we have a thousand doubts, and when we add the financial burden of these activities, we often give up. Thanks to the work of the social tutors and the economic commitment of donors, we found the courage to get involved and give our children the chance to try new experiences.”
A mother
This project will give around 34 children the chance to experience unforgettable recreational therapy in their own community.
We have reached our 8th year of activity!
This year, families will choose based on the experience their children and teenagers have already gained. Wonderfully complex children, each with their own wishes and ability to relate to the world and to therapies.
Here’s their wish list:
- Pet therapy: €60 for 1 hour of therapy
- Aquatic motor rehabilitation: €42 for 1 hour of rehabilitation
- Individual swimming lessons: €17 for 1 hour of lessons
- Music therapy: €30 for 1 hour of therapy
- Educational and recreational workshops: €25 for 1 hour of workshops
We use already established activities available in the child’s local area to make them accessible year-round and to show families that everything is possible!
Family commitment is significant, our children have neurological, neuromotor, autism spectrum disorders, and syndromes. They are complex children, but… everything is possible if we want it to be, and we at Una mano per… want it! We will accompany families on their journey to make it possible.
ADULT LIFE MM26
And then? Once their schooling ends (when state funding for support teachers and educators stops), how do young adults with complex disabilities who are not entering the workforce face their lives?
We have created an experimental project called “Una mano per… Vita da Maggiorenni” (“Life as Adults”).
This project allows participants to maintain their INPS status while also giving them the chance to be part of a real, productive pathway within Third Sector organizations (associations, social promotion organizations, voluntary organizations, social cooperatives). They take part in volunteer work, contributing both operationally and educationally.
The young people themselves do not receive an economic contribution — instead, it is the Professional Educators who accompany them in their journey who are compensated (€25/hour). All other people involved in the project do so on a voluntary, unpaid basis.
