Working for Wasa: Building the Future of Education in Tanzania Together
Students for Humanity was founded in 2011 as a student association at Bocconi University, with the goal of spreading values of solidarity and social responsibility within the Milanese university context. Today, it is a Volunteering Organization (ODV) registered in the RUNTS, and it carries forward the Working for Wasa project, launched in 2012 to support the development of the village of Wasa in Tanzania. Over the years, the organization’s commitment has grown thanks to a team of 25 students and young professionals who work directly with local communities. After more than a decade of activity, Working for Wasa is taking on a new challenge: the construction of a polytechnic school in the village of Kinyanambo, in the Diocese of Mafinga, an area currently lacking adequate educational facilities.
The school will in fact be the first of its kind in the province of Mufindi and the third in the entire Iringa region. It will offer an integrated educational program that combines academic subjects, such as mathematics, physics, and biology, with technical and vocational training through courses in civil engineering, mechatronics, computer science, and horticulture.
The project is in line with the Tanzanian government’s development plan, which for years has been investing in the training of qualified technicians to support the country’s growth. The school will be a boarding school, with an adjoining dormitory, able to host students coming also from surrounding rural areas, often excluded from access to higher education.
By taking part in the Milan Marathon 2025, you can help build not only a school, but also a concrete opportunity for the future of hundreds of young Tanzanians.
Run with us, run for our students.
