Sociolario Had a “Home in Mind”… Actually, Two!
Cooperativa Sociolario has taken on a new challenge: to double down on its “Home in Mind” project. In July 2024, the Municipality of Como granted the cooperative a 25-year lease on an apartment in the city.
The goal is to turn it into a light residential housing solution for adults with disabilities who wish to gain independence from their families and who already possess the skills and readiness for a co-housing experience.
The apartment will accommodate 4 people at a time, but it requires renovation to upgrade systems and make it accessible, modern, and welcoming.
The total estimated cost is €110,000.
This apartment, along with the “independent living skills training home” launched thanks to Sociolario’s participation in the Milano Marathon Charity Program in 2024 and 2025, will enable the cooperative to offer a comprehensive and integrated macro-service. This will address two key needs: the opportunity to try out autonomous or semi-autonomous living, and the chance to gradually gain the necessary tools to live independently.
Both apartments are located in strategic urban areas to foster social inclusion within the community. The training home is adjacent to Sociolario’s Social-Educational Center, active for over thirty years. The new residential solution is in a residential neighborhood on the edge of Como’s historic center, well connected by public services, providing opportunities for community-based learning and social interaction.
