MANI TESE ETS
No tene diritu a um vida sem violência
A project to strengthen protection mechanisms for GBV victims and promote women’s rights in Guinea-Bissau.
Context
In Guinea-Bissau, gender inequality has reached alarming levels. About 30% of those affected are girls aged 0 to 14. Rural areas are where harmful practices are most widespread. Women are exposed to various forms of violence – domestic, psychological, and sexual violence, early and/or forced marriages, and female genital mutilation. These acts almost always occur within the household, and are often socially accepted as a result. While cases are frequent in both urban and rural settings, gender-based violence is particularly severe in rural areas, due to isolation and limited access to information and protection services for women.
Objectives
The project NO TENE DIRITU A UM VIDA SEM VIOLÊNCIA (“We have the right to a life free from violence”) aims to continue promoting and protecting the rights of women and girls in the country, in line with the CEDAW – Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
The main goal is to combat and prevent gender-based violence in the regions of Quínara, Tombali, Bafatá, Gabu, Cacheu, Oio, and SAB, by strengthening victim protection systems and promoting their social and economic reintegration.
