Prevention and research: two powerful allies in the fight against breast cancer
Every year in Italy, approximately 50,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed, and a mastectomy is required in 30–40% of these patients.
EUBREAST ETS Italy is leading the development of the I-PREPARE Study (Prospective REgistry on Pre-PectorAL Reconstruction); the first international prospective registry dedicated to pre-pectoral breast reconstruction after mastectomy. This technique represents one of the most significant innovations in breast surgery in recent years: not only does it aim at curing but also allows for faster functional recovery and excellent aesthetic results, restoring women’s quality of life and confidence.
The aim of the study is to validate the effectiveness of this technique, identifying the ideal profiles of candidate patients and making this method accessible to an ever-increasing number of women. To date, 536 patients have been enrolled, thanks to the collaboration of 27 centers of excellence in 11 countries.
Support from fundraising and from the runners who join together with EUBREAST to participate in the 2026 Relay Milano Marathon 2026 are fundamental to furthering the expansion of the study sample and ensuring that more patients have access to this technique.
Our mission remains unchanged: to ensure effective care, faster recovery, and better quality of life to women affected by breast cancer.
