HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Cancersucks is a project born from the idea of Luca Belloni in 2014. After being diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma – one of the most aggressive and deadly forms of brain cancer – Luca decided to run the New York Marathon to raise funds for the Fondazione per la Ricerca Biomedica ONLUS (Foundation for Biomedical Research – Brain Tumor Therapy) in Turin, which was effectively helping him treat the disease he had been diagnosed with.

Luca is no longer with us.

But the great humanity, professionalism, and scientific expertise of the Foundation allowed him to live much longer than anyone could have expected, and in excellent conditions – enough to run more than one marathon, with times worthy of a real athlete.

The friends who had supported him from the beginning in this fundraising effort decided to carry on the project and give it maximum visibility to increase donations.
To achieve this, in 2019, the same group of friends decided to turn Luca’s dream into a true social promotion association: CANCERSUCKS APS.

VISION

To improve the quality of life for patients with brain tumors and their families.

We firmly believe that scientific research and discoveries are the key to increasing both the life expectancy and the quality of life of patients and those who care for them.

Our hope is that innovations in science, technology, and medicine will lead to new models of diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and care.

MISSION

We support scientific research on brain tumors by awarding scholarships to doctors and researchers, thanks to a team of individuals and companies who actively contribute to the life of the association through volunteering and donations.

In particular, we collaborate with the Neuro-Oncology Unit of the University of Turin / AOU Città della Salute e della Scienza, helping to fund at least one Type A University Researcher position every three years (cost: €150K).

We offer support, safety, and a listening ear to patients and their families throughout the different phases of diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors.

We promote accurate information, scientific outreach, prevention, and fundraising through sports and social events.
